Meet Ellen, Executive Assistant to Alister Coleman
As Folklore continues to grow, we’re excited to welcome Ellen Posa to the team as Executive Assistant to Alister Coleman. Ellen joins Folklore with 10+ years experience at professional services firms, including Deloitte and most recently Commonwealth Bank of Australia, where she has been for the past 6 years.
Ellen isn’t shy about managing complex situations and getting things done. With extensive experience supporting business leaders, Ellen is well-equipped to support the team at Folklore during our next phase of growth.
On a personal level, Ellen is a Bondi-residing, gym fanatic who will convince anyone who listens to ‘go for it’. During this discussion, Ellen shares her motivations, superpower and how to get past her to Alister Coleman. Enjoy.
What drew you to Folklore?
“The mission of backing early stage, high potential startups resonated with me - and the Folklore team practice what they preach. After many years at large accounting and financial services firms, I was driven by the idea of being able to see the tangible impact of everything I do.
I feel very aligned with the team and their values. It’s motivating to work alongside such a talented, close knit bunch of people.”
How has your background prepared you for this role?
“Working at a large accounting firm gives you wide-ranging exposure to high level operations and best practices in financial services, as you work alongside different leaders and team members across all domains. You harness a variety of skills in a fast paced environment, constantly managing conflicting priorities whilst maintaining visibility across financials, corporate governance and strategic planning.
Working at somewhere like the Commonwealth Bank of Australia gives you a one stop shop for skill development. Especially in a role that helps unlock time and provides leverage to a business leader.”
What excites you most about the startup ecosystem?
“The scale of innovation and creativity. There’s something to say about being around people who are driven to change the way the world works - advancing technology in the sector in which they operate.”
Share a bit more about your story, where do we find you out of hours?
“I’m originally from the Blue Mountains. Growing up, I focused on equestrian and have a big love for horses. I’ve been living in Bondi for the past three years. I’ve loved living near a beach, and having a front-row seat to the innovation and tech scene alive in Sydney.
Out of hours, you’ll find me responding to emails (I like to keep my house in order), socialising with friends or walking with my two Italian greyhounds, Leaf and Fig. If I’m not at the gym.”
What’s your superpower?
“I’ve been told that I’m a great connector. That I maintain a good sense of humour and remain grounded in high pressure situations.”
How do we get around you (to contact Alister)?
“My job is to optimise Alister's time. If anything, I'll help you reach Alister quicker."
The advice I’d give to my younger self is ...
“Ask for it. Make it happen. Do it. The worst someone can say is no. Start now.”
